Michael Harper

Biography
  • Michael Harper has sung opera and concerts throughout Europe, in China and the USA. He holds a Master of Music Degree from the University of Cincinnati College-  Conservatory of Music where he also did further doctoral studies and studied opera at the Mayer-Lismann Opera Centre in London.


  • In opera, Michael has performed the title roles in Giasone (Cavalli) at the Megaron inAthens, San Giovanni Battista (Stradella) for Musica nel Chiostro in Batignano, Italy and The Waiter's Revenge for Jigsaw Music Theatre in London and most recently Flavio for Neue Opembühne Berlin in Berlin and Gran Canaria.
  • His directing credits include: Gianni Schicchi, The Turn of the Screw and Cosi fan tutte.


  • Concert performances include: "Free" with Simon Callow and the LGSO for World AIDS Day, The Blazing Heart with Helen Chadwick, the Pergolesi Stabat Mater with the LGSO and a concert in the Institute for Contemporary Arts in London with China's premiere interpreter of modem dance, Jin Xing with whom he also performed Carmina Burana with the Chinese National Opera and Orchestra in Shanghai and Beijing. He has also appeared in "My Favourite Hymns" for Granada Television and in a performance at the Clore Studio, Royal Opera House, Covent Garden with the dancer, Mavin Khoo.
  • In addition, Michael spends part of his time singing and teaching African-American Spiritual songs. Upcoming engagements include recitals in the UK and Sing for Water London as part of Thames Festival.

About Mavin Koo
  • Mavin Khoo combines the dance-worlds of classical ballet, Bharata Natyam and Western contemporary dance with sensuous elegance and athletic exuberance.


  • Mavin Khoo Dance returns to the Linbury with Devi, an exploration of woman as celebrated in both ancient Hindu text and Sufi poetry.


  • French choreographer Laurent Cavanna returns to work with the Company and the Bharata Natyam sections have been created by Mavin Khoo. Mavin is joined by Zoe Dimitriou to perform this new duet.


  • The specially commissioned music by Oslo-based Electric Lane juxtaposes South Indian vocalist Pushkala Gopal and American countertenor Michael Harper in live performance.
